A Birthday Prayer

A birthday is a good day to give thanks for a life and to pray for the year ahead. This is a short birthday prayer, for yourself or someone you love.

Lord, thank you for the gift of this life and for another year of it. Thank you for every day already lived, the joyful and the hard, and for carrying us through them all. Teach us to number our days and to spend them well. In the year ahead, fill this life with your goodness, your protection, and your purpose. Surround this person with people who love them, and let them know, deep down, that they are loved by you. Happy birthday, held in your hands. Amen.
